The Shangri-La diet, and why it works. First thing in the morning, neck extra virgin olive oil. That’s it.
Bags of calories, right? Weird diet, therefore.
Yes, but you get to ingest quality fats which make your body function better for the rest of the day. Quality fats that you wouldn’t normally be ingesting as they just aren’t there in the normal Western diet. Even better would be flax oil or walnut oil, but they’re not so easily available.
Your body, subsequent to necking those quality fats, processes whatever it eats better so you don’t get so hungry. That’s the sense behind it, I’d say. He dresses it up with the whole “It has to be flavourless calories to work” thing to get people to actually regularly ingest the olive oil; I mean, have you tried swallowing neat olive oil?
Yech!
So he tells people to mix it with enough water and swallow it quick so you don’t taste it not because it’s in any way necessary for it to work but because he knows if people could taste it, well, they’d just never follow the diet.
So in that sense, it’s a con-trick.
But in the sense of getting you to lose weight, it isn’t.
